Statement
In March of 2020, COVID effectively shut the world down, and in those uncertain times, social media—for better or worse—became our bridge, keeping us connected in our isolation. During that period, an interesting shift occurred. As TV content dwindled due to the halt in production, social media communities like BookTok and Bookstagram transformed reading from a primarily solitary task into a social experience, drawing in millions of “new” readers. This development in social reading paved the way for buddy reading: a pandemic-resilient evolution of traditional book clubs offering connection and flexible pacing through digital tools.
Thread adapts to mixed book formats and leverages this translation to prevent spoilers while incorporating multimedia for an immersive and enhanced buddy reading experience.
