Transportation Policies

Transportation of Minors

When there is a need for transporting minors (ex: Pre-College programs), MICA Transportation shuttles and buses should be the primary source for trips in Maryland and Washington, D.C. MICA and its contractors carry the levels of insurance needed for all student transportation needs. For larger sized trips, or trips out of state, departments must use Woodlawn Motor Coach as they have been screened by MICA to meet interstate transportation and insurance levels recommended by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

MICA’s Department of Transportation can assist college departments in obtaining information for Woodlawn Motor Coach, or assist with the booking of coach/bus transportation itself. Please keep in mind that charges for Woodlawn Motor Coach are placed directly on MICA-issued credit cards, and non-refundable deposits are required.

Minors should not be instructed to utilize public transportation (light-rail, buses, subways) without direct staff or faculty supervision through all aspects of the trip. You may contact the college’s Risk Management Office in the Campus Services Department to discuss any issues arising out of the travel of minors.

Faculty and staff are not authorized to transport minors in their personal vehicles unless it is deemed as an emergency. If possible, two members of MICA faculty or staff should be involved in the transporting of said minors.
