F-1 international students: Review Internships for International Students
The Internship Orientation is the first step to register an internship for school credit. The Orientation can be completed anytime from anywhere. It is recommended to complete the Orientation least two weeks ahead of the start of a new internship.
Students only have to complete the Internship Orientation once during their time at MICA.
International students interning in the United States should ensure they have proper work authorization to complete the experience. F-1 students require work authorization through Curricular Practical Training (CPT). Contact International Education with your questions.
MICA supports for-credit internships completed in students' home countries.
The Internship Learning Agreement is used to register a student's internship for school credit, and outlines details including timelines, job responsibilities, and goals of the experience. Once hired to an internship, submit the Agreement online through MICAnetwork prior to the intended start date.
The Internship Learning Agreement is reviewed by multiple parties to ensure the internship is an appropriate and intentional learning experience that adheres to MICA’s standards and guidelines. The agreement is approved by:
Approvals are managed electronically through MICAnetwork. Approvals typically only take a few days to process. All parties reserve the right to deny an internship if they do not feel it is an appropriate experience.
Once you receive an email confirmation of your internship's approval, Career Development will register your internship for the semester you indicate in your Internship Agreement. Review MICA’s Academic Calendar for specific internship add deadlines. Leave enough room in your schedule to accommodate your internship's studio credits without going over the semester's 19.5 credit limit.
Look for an email invitation to join the internship Canvas course. There you will find the syllabus and all coursework materials. Coursework is also submitted through Canvas.
