Duo Two-Factor Authentication

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I see the Duo prompt every time I login?

This could be due to several factors. First, your web browser remembering you is dependent on your browser's cookie settings. You will see the Duo prompt frequently if you are online through a new browser you haven't used before, if you are using private/incognito mode, or if your browser is configured to regularly clear/block cookies.

Check your Duo settings by attempting to login to myMICA. The Duo prompt will display a Remember me option. Ensure you select this option and Duo will prompt you less frequently. Again, this is dependent on browser cookies, so if you clear or block the cookies set by Duo, the Remember me option will reset and you will need to select it when you next login.

What do I do if I don't have my phone?

MICA's authentication is dependent on something you know (your password) and something you have (your phone or mobile device), so it is important that you keep it with you. If you are locked out of your MICA account, please contact the Help Desk and we will be able to assist.

How do I enroll in Duo without a mobile device or phone number?

If you do not have a mobile device or phone number, you may use a physical security key instead. These are small devices that plug into USB-A, USB-C, or Lightning ports, and authenticate your account when they are plugged in. Compatible models may be purchased from Yubico.

For more information on enrolling with a physical security key, see the official instructions from Duo: https://guide.duo.com/universal-prompt#add-security-key

If you are interested in obtaining a physical security key, the Help Desk will be able to assist you.
