Our Mission
The exhibition programming seeks to enrich and extend the community's interest, awareness, education and appreciation of contemporary art and through a diverse and challenging series of events that encourages dialogue and addresses the issues pertinent to contemporary art. The Meyerhoff and Decker galleries of the Maryland Institute College of Art serve the immediate community comprised of the people of the Baltimore/Washington DC area and the students, faculty and staff of the college, as well as the extended community of artist, curators and educators throughout the United States through our exhibitions, publications, video and related special events. As a non-collecting institution, the Maryland Institute College of Art presents an on-going series of temporary exhibitions throughout the year. Our programming serves two distinct, yet related purposes:
- Focusing on international, national and regional developments in contemporary art, we expand the educational and cultural awareness of the region and the school.
- Presenting the current work produced by the students, faculty and alumni, we expand the community's awareness of the school.
Additional educational and special programs compliment the exhibitions by providing a forum for the examination of the cultural and historical contexts in which the works were created. This occurs in a variety of forms, including catalogues, brochures, lectures, symposia and panel discussions.
