House of Sedulo

Previously known as The Fray Baltimore, House of Sedulō is both a space and a community for black creatives. Sedulous is a term that means to work consistently or with great care or concentration. House of Sedulō hosts shows, open mic nights, and other community events, as well as a one-to-six-month artist residency. The residency is for emerging or established black artists from any discipline who are interested in developing their art and immersing themselves in Baltimore’s black creative scene.

 

Eubie Blake Cultural Center 

Establishes programs for young people but also exciting and expansive programs--activities, events and performances--for adults and seniors.

Creative Alliance

Builds communities by bringing together artists and audiences from diverse backgrounds to experience spectacular arts and education programs and engage in the creative process.

An artist-run gallery, studio, and outdoor performance space, nourishing an ongoing dialogue between artists, activists, performers, designers, curators, and thinkers.

 

Nomu Nomu

An intersectional arts collaborative working to challenge the perpetual systems of oppression within and beyond the art world. They work to curate radical exhibitions; provide space and resources for local artists to create; and work with activist and cultural grassroots movements to organize through the use of screen printing, resource sharing, and art production.

 

Maryland Art Place

Works to inspire, support, and encourage artistic expression through innovative programming, exhibitions, and educational opportunities while recognizing the powerful impact art can have on our community.

 

Hot Sauce Artist Collective

An artist-run organization. Our mission is to give opportunities to emerging and established artists by showing their artwork in untraditional gallery spaces. We bring the gallery environment to parking lots, city parks, trails, and more. 

 

Waller Gallery

A multidisciplinary art gallery focusing on art created by people of color.

 

Goya Contemporary

Notable for its promotion of art and culture within Baltimore and further afield, Goya Contemporary presents an innovative range of exhibitions, collaborations, and printed publications. Showcasing cutting-edge works of contemporary art and generating dialogue about contemporary practice.

 

Made in Baltimore

MiB supports makers and manufacturers in Baltimore City. Their mission is simple: Encourage investment in Baltimore’s economy by growing the market for locally-made goods and supporting the people who make them.

 

Station North Arts District

Station North Arts & Entertainment, Inc supports and advocates for a thriving and diverse arts community by promoting civic and cultural engagement, harnessing and directing resources, and preserving and enhancing the creative vibrancy of the district. SNAD works as a convener, connector and promoter to assist existing and recruit new artists and artistic entities.

 

Creative Labs/The Labs

Creative Labs, or The Labs, is a 28,000 square-foot warehouse in the Hampden neighborhood that serves as an incubator for creative entrepreneurship. The Labs offers a variety of creative resources including recording studios, offices, a dark room, a woodshop, screenprinting, a video studio, performance spaces, and more.

 

Baltimore Artists Union 

Baltimore Artists Union is a creative community that works in tandem with The Labs. The group meets to discuss issues in the community and collaborate on projects. Serving as an artist sanctuary, Baltimore Artists Union rents out affordable studio space in The Labs, and hosts workshops and weekly art-based events.

Archive Liberia / A site of collective memory

Founder, Bilphena Yahwon is concerned with the uses of memory for Black folks: how we inherit it, how we preserve it and how we pass it down. Yahwon is the curator of her online library and launched Archive Liberia as a personal memory project.

Space for the voices of BIPOC in personal or professional pursuits of creativity in the arts & humanities

A collective with the goal of helping artists find resources and opportunities to exhibit their work.

Grants & Scholarships

 

Dr. Frankie Martin Diversity & Inclusion Grant

Each year funds are generated from ticket sales of the Annual Benefit Fashion Show (ABFS) sponsored by the Office of Culture and Identity (OCI). Profits from the show provide additional financial assistance for student participants in OCI and is on a needs-basis.

 

Angel Fund

The Division of Student Affairs hosts resources to assist and support enrolled, full-time graduate or undergraduate students who experience a short term financial hardship. 

 

Faculty and Staff Queer Alliance (FASQA) Scholarships

Faculty and Staff Queer Alliance (FASQA) is comprised of MICA staff and faculty members that meet on a regular basis for event-planning, fundraising, networking, and socializing. Broad goals include outreach, awareness, advocacy, and LGBTQ+ scholarship.
