Emily Stroud ’23 (LeRoy E. Hoffberger School of Painting MFA)

Statement

My paintings explore the intersection of my present mundane and my memories. I create sometimes terrifying, sometimes comical domestic spaces by utilizing symbolism and nods to historical paintings. Through painting intimate moments with manufactured, almost toxic colors, I am looking to find a sense of clarity about the relationship between the experiences in my domestic life with the constant intrusions of my past selves.
