Statement

Rachel Stein is an artist and educator based in Baltimore, Maryland. The core of her art practice deals with her relationship to the natural environment. She presents modern environmental concerns through a juxtaposition of the body, the landscape, and plastic objects. By redefining plastic material, she invites viewers to question its new function- and by extension their own consumer reality. The transitory and mundane nature of the material creates an anti-monumental quality, giving less empowerment to the material and more power to the forces of nature that move it.
