MICA's Low-Residency Graduate Community operates on a slightly different timeline — you can review all of the information you need here.

Living on Campus

While not required, many low-residency students choose to live on campus during the summer session. The estimated living expenses included below reflect the expected cost for on-campus housing during the 6-week summer session. We use suite-style dormitories for low-residency student housing which are unoccupied in the summer months; we are able to provide de-densified housing to help mitigate risks to public and student health. For candidates that wish to live on campus, please follow these steps:

  1.  Housing Deposit: When completing the Declaration of Intent and submitting your tuition deposit, you can also submit your $200 housing deposit to reserve your space in campus housing.
  2.  Complete the Low-Residency Housing Application: The application form allows you to provide general information about your preferences and needs so that you can receive a suitable housing assignment.

Cost of Attendance

MICA's low-residency MFA program is billed differently than full-time programs: students are invoiced for tuition at the beginning of each of the four summer sessions. That tuition payment covers the full academic year (summer session, fall semester, and spring semester).

Please note that the cost of attendance includes living expenses for the full year! We understand that many low-residency students will not require federal funding for living expenses outside the summer residencies. Per new federal rules around remote learning, MICA is required to include these expenses — since you are earning credit during the fall and spring semesters from home, that is considered remote learning. Please note that you are not obligated to borrow for those expenses if you do not need to; it is an option to make your studies as easy as possible.
