Graduate Admission Policies

The Office of Graduate Admission is committed to the creation of a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and global graduate community. Working with our students, faculty, partners, and city to generate an artistically and intellectually diverse environment is our mission.

The Office of Graduate Admission works with the Graduate Review Committee annually to facilitate, review, and evaluate applications to MICA's graduate programs.

Admission Offer Policies

Notification: The Office of Graduate Admission notifies applicants of their acceptance to one or more of MICA’s graduate programs via email. The email notification serves as the official notification of admission and scholarship.  An admission letter offers a candidate a position in the graduate program, as well as a partial merit scholarship, per the conditions outlined in the email.

Enrollment: While an applicant may be admitted to more than one graduate program, enrollment is limited to one program (of the candidate’s choice).  Enrollment is dependent on successfully meeting required deadlines and adhering to MICA's Graduate Admission policies (outlined below).

Deferral: Admitted candidates may request an admission deferral to the next academic year. Deferral requests must be submitted no later than May 15th. Deferrals are subject to faculty approval.

The Office of Graduate Admission reserves the right to rescind an offer of admission at any point prior to the start of classes in either the fall or summer semester for the following reasons:
  1. The inclusion of false, misleading, or plagiarized information or materials in the application or in subsequent submissions to MICA.
  2.  Failure to adhere to required deadlines or admission procedures.
  3. A change in undergraduate academic performance or degree completion status, or failure to complete an undergraduate degree.
  4. Changes to the graduate program operational status or capacity.
  5. Behavior that contradicts or violates MICA’s Student Code of Conduct
