International Admission

MICA believes in tearing down walls, not building more of them. We understand that globalization is not a fad, but the way of the world.

MICA provides various admission plans for International First Year and Transfer students.  If at any point you need to talk, the International Undergraduate Admission Office is here to help. Click here to meet your MICA counselors.

International admission counselors are available every week for one-on-one conversations. Click here to schedule a time to ask questions or have a portfolio review.

First Year Application Requirements

Apply using the Common Application. The application fee is $70 total ($60 application fee; $10 portfolio submission fee).

Application Fee Waiver

The application fee waiver must be submitted by the February 1st Regular Decision Deadline.

1. Do not click "Yes" to the fee waiver application question in the Profile section of the Common Application. Doing so will request a fee waiver to all institutions you are applying to.

2. In the "General" section of MICA's Member Questions in the Common Application, for the MICA-specific fee waiver question, answer "Yes, I would like an application fee waiver from MICA." You will then be able to submit your application without paying a fee.

*By submitting your application to MICA you consent to receive text messages regarding your admission decision.

The portfolio should be a selection of recent artwork that represents your artistic interests and demonstrates your technical skills and ability. You should include examples of artwork that reflect the full range of your ideas, interests, experience, and abilities in the arts to date. Applicants must submit a portfolio of 12-20 pieces of artwork. Please follow the instructions provided in the Common Application to upload your portfolio.

International transfer applicants should follow the instructions under Application Procedures for Transfer Applicants.

All applicants whose primary language is not English must demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English.

Test Optional, SAT and ACT: MICA does not require SAT or ACT scores for your application to be considered complete. If you believe that your test score will strengthen your application, you are welcome to submit it for admission consideration. MICA's institution code for SAT is 5399. Our ACT code is 1710.

TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, Duolingo:  If English is not your first language you must submit a valid TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, or Duolingo score with your application. MICA requires a minimum TOEFL score of 75 (MyBest scores are accepted), an IELTS score of 6.0, a PTE score of 58, or a Duolingo score of 105. MICA’s institution code is 5399 for TOEFL and IELTS.

MICA does not require TOEFL, IELTS, PTE or Duolingo scores if you have a minimum SAT score of 470 or ACT score of 18 in the English section, or official transcripts that demonstrate at least two full years of academic success at a high school or college/university in which English is the language of instruction.

Choose one of the writing prompts listed on the Common Application and write an essay (250-word minimum).

The recommendations of teachers, college counselors, or other professionals who can comment on your art and academic experiences are important to your application. At least one letter of recommendation is required for your application. Please follow the instructions provided on the Common Application to submit your recommender requests and allow them to upload their letters of support through the application service you selected.

Compile a list of activities, interests, and honors as explained on the Common Application.

Applicants must provide official transcripts of all secondary academic work. Your guidance or college counselor may submit your transcript through the Common Application, Parchment, mail or email to records@mica.edu.
