Statement

Gabby Hemmer is a multimedia painter and textile artist based in Baltimore and Silver Spring, Maryland. Hemmer uses a variety of materials to evoke the timeless through symbolic imagery and childlike gestures. In whatever medium she works with, her mark making and repetitive use of imagery are in conversation with each other. She strays from the representational by obscuring reality through intense choice of color, abstract textures, and simplified shapes. Her work focuses on concepts of home, memory, work, and rest.
