Humanistic Studies (Minor)

The goal of a Humanistic Studies (HS) minor is to offer students the opportunity to reflect deeply on the themes and issues they encountered while engaged with a concentrated field of study in the HS department.

There are five fields of study, or specializations, in the minor program of the Humanistic Studies Department: creative writing, critical studiesgender studies, literary studies, and culture and politics. Students minoring in Humanistic Studies must elect one of these fields and then meet the following requirements:

  1. Secure an appropriate Humanistic Studies departmental faculty member as a minor advisor.
  2. In consultation with the minor advisor, successfully complete 18 credits of study specific to the minor field. Minor field courses are those courses identified by the Humanistic Studies department as satisfying the minor requirements for each of the five minor fields listed above.
  3. Successfully complete an approved thesis in the minor field under the direction of the minor advisor.
