Fitness Classes do not take place during the summer break and will resume fall 2023. Classes are available to all MICA students and employees. All classes held in the MICA Fitness Center unless other specified.
Tai Chi–Mondays at 7:30 p.m. (9 week class Jan 23rd - March 27th)
Tai Chi
Tai Chi (literally “supreme ultimate palm”) and Qigong (an energy cultivation exercise pronounced “cheegung”) help participants cultivate physical and mental balance and circulate and restore their chi, or “life force energy.” Tai Chi dates back 450 years to the Chen Village in China. The original Yang style “long form” (108 movements) emerged in the late 19th century but was shortened to 24 moves and made more uniform in 1960s China. We will be focused on the 24 Movement form. Over the duration of the course, we will study basic principles as well as moving Qigong exercises that will help to strengthen internal organs and the immune system.
Zumba–Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m.
Zumba
Zumba is an effective, fun and downright addictive workout. Forget the workout, just lose yourself in the music and find yourself in shape at the original dance-fitness party. Zumba® classes feature exotic rhythms set to high-energy Latin and international beats. Before you know it, you'll be getting fit and your energy levels will be soaring! It's easy to do, effective and totally exhilarating.
Yoga–Wednesday 5:30-6:30 p.m. and Sunday 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Vinyasa-based flow that creates a safe, inspiring, engaging space for all levels to explore their practice. This class will strengthen the body with the use of traditional poses, balancing sequences, core engagement, and breathwork.
Kangoo Jumps–Thursdays 7:00-8:00 p.m.
Kangoo Jumps
Kangoo Jumps is an absolutely amazing and fun workout for everybody to enjoy. It is a 60-minute intense cardiovascular workout that combines dance moves, running and jumping around on MOON BOOTS**.

*Wear long thick socks. Some socks will be made available during the first class.
*THERE IS A 250lb LIMIT.** The boots used for the class are designed to absorb the impact while bouncing. The benefits of the boot will not be felt if over the weight limit.
Strength and Conditioning–Thursdays 5pm-5:45 p.m.
Strength and Conditioning
This 45-60min class is intended to help you improve your strength and conditioning by working on foundational and functional movements performed at various intensity levels. The first Thursday of each month will be an 'Intro to the Gym' class, where we'll go over the basics of how to make the gym work for you, even if you're a total beginner. Whether you're just getting started in the fitness world or already working out but looking to add a little spice to your workout routine, this class is for you!
