ANIMATION FILM SCREENING W/ JESSE PIRES

MICA Animation will be holding an Animation Film Screening WITH Director & Curator, Jesse Pires on Tuesday, April 16th!   A selection of films from the 1970s that display a variety of animation techniques, from simple hand drawn images to early experiments with computer technology. This program is curated by Jesse Pires from the 16mm film collection at Lightbox Film Center. Kinestasis 60 (Chuck Braverman, 1970, 4 minutes) Matrix (John Whitney, 1971, 6 minutes) Gulls and Buoys (Robert Breer, 1972, 6 minutes) Fuji (Robert Breer, 1974, 9 minutes) Interview (Caroline Leaf & Veronika Soul, 1978, 13 minutes) About Jesse Pires:  Jesse Pires is Director & Curator of Lightbox Film Center at University of the Arts in Philadelphia where he has organized numerous film screenings including “Dream Dance: The Art of Ed Emshwiller” (2019) and “Free to Love: The Cinema of the Sexual Revolution” (2014). His work delves into a wide range of moving image histories and connects them to the present moment. Pires was a fellow at the  2013 Robert Flaherty Film Seminar (Hamilton, NY), and a delegate at the 2012 Experimental Cinema Congress (Berlin) and the 2010 Experimental Media Congress (Toronto). He has curated programs for the Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania, Slought Foundation, Vox Populi Gallery, The Fabric Workshop & Museum, Light Industry, and Union Docs.
