Future-forward Friday: Interior Design at MICA

A degree for students who can thoughtfully engage with the built environment.

Creative vision meets the built environment at the Maryland Institute College of Art. The newBachelor of Design (BDes) in Interior Design prepares students to transform spaces through human-centered design, studio-based learning, and technical skills in areas like lighting, materials, and spatial planning.

For generations of alumni, interior design at MICA has been about more than aesthetics, it’s about purpose and possibility. As alumna Suzanne Levin-Lapides ’69 reflects, “MICA taught me that art isn’t just what we make; it’s how we live.”

That spirit of creative courage also shaped alumna Carolyn Campbell ’72, who says, “MICA taught me that art opens lives.”

Aligned with professional certification pathways and real-world career opportunities, the program builds on MICA’s long tradition of preparing designers to shape environments — and communities — for the future.

Join the festivities as MICA honors its 200-year history, recognizes its present success, and looks forward to a bright future. Throughout 2026, the College will be sharing community stories and announcing one-of-a-kind events on campus, in Baltimore, and beyond.
