State-of-the-Art Resources
Students in filmmaking programs have access to:
- A 49-seat screening room, which can present both digital video and 16mm films
- A 600-square-foot sound recording studio, and a smaller recording booth for vocal dubbing and foley mixing
- A 2,000-square-foot cyclorama green room sound stage, which is large enough to accommodate set building and studio shooting
- A film room, which houses a 16mm Steenbeck film editing table
- Dedicated individual high-definition editing suites
- An equipment cage that gives students access to everything from lights, microphones, and dollies to more than 40 camera packages, which range from Super 16mm to the latest 4K High Definition format
- A computer room with 20 Macs
The JHU-MICA Film Centre is the home of the MFA in Filmmaking and BFA in Film and Video programs. MICA shares second floor space and resources with Johns Hopkins University's undergraduate and graduate programs in film and media.
Screenings and workshops are often held with the Maryland Film Festival, located in the nearby Stavros Niarchos Foundation Parkway Theatre.
In an age where filmmakers aren't bound to a studio in a single city, MICA's programs don't just acknowledge the technology-driven changes in the film and media industry, they embrace them.
The shared facilities include classroom, lounge, and gathering spaces that foster collaboration among students.
