Dr. Basile earned a BA in Archaeological Studies from Boston University (1987), and an AM and PhD from Brown University in Old World Archaeology and Art (1990 and 1992).  He worked on excavations in the United States, Greece, and Italy, and had served as Associate Director of the Brown University excavations at the Great Temple in Petra, Jordan. His research focused on the reception of classical art in the United States, “peripheral” art in classical antiquity, Greek vase painting, and the history of archaeology.  He authored articles published in The International Journal of the Arts in Society, World Archaeology, Near Eastern Archaeology, Bulletin of the American Schools of Oriental Research, Annual of the Department of Antiquities of Jordan, Petra Great Temple (Vol. I), Archaeology Odyssey, Archaeologia Transatlantica, Classical World, Oxford Companion to Archaeology, Archaeological Method and Theory: An Encyclopedia, Revue des archéologues et historiens d’art de Louvain, and Brown Classical Journal.
