Join us for the opening of Terrestrial Simulacra , a joint show by Abbey Franklin and Seanna Harris on November 15th 2019 from 5pm - 7pm . This is a Student Space Gallery run exhibition and will be on view from November 11th 2019 to December 6th 2019 in the Gateway gallery. Light refreshments will be provided. Abbey and Seanna address their environment as some abstract setting that facilitates their lives, failing to acknowledge it as the kernel of our very existence. This anthropocentric dialogue is what this collection seeks to investigate. One distinct feature of man is the desire to manipulate their environment. This point can be demonstrated through the fish tank motif. Understood as domestic and easily obtainable, the fish tank is the epitomization of this concept. Species are encapsulated in tiny geometric structures as if extruded from nature and superimposed into a human time and order. Franklin and Harris have implemented bright colors and patterns, blurring the distinction between natures innate beauty, and beauty through product of human construction and fabrication. Fiber’s innate connection to the organic is contrasted with the synthetic and manmade designs apparent throughout the works. This show explores the spectrum of human interference and our relationship with nature: what we choose to edit, attempt to remain intact, and the repercussions of our ‘revisions’.
