Joan Jonas is a world-renowned artist whose work encompasses a wide range of media including video, performance, installa- tion, sound, text, and sculpture. Jonas’ experiments and productions in the late 1960s and early 1970s continue to be crucial to the development of many contemporary art genres, from performance and video to conceptual art and theatre. Working between mediums and across genres (biography, mythology, folklore), she has animated countless intellectual and artistic experiments in translation, technology, and narrative. Jonas had numerous solo exhibitions, including at the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (1994); Le Plateau and Jeu de Paume, Paris (2005); Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) (2007- 2008); The Centre d’Art Contemporain Genè€ve, Geneva (2008); HangarBicocca, Milan (2014); Tate Modern, London (2018); Museu Serralves, Porto (2019); Ocean Space, Thyssen-Bornemisza Art 21, Venice (2019). Jonas represented the US at the 56th Venice Biennale (2015) and has participated in six editions of Documenta in Kassel (1972, 1977, 1982, 1987, 2002, 2012).
