Accompanied by freshly brewed coffee, inks, metal type, and Tobasco sauce, Kühne runs Switzerland’s most comprehensive, active letterpress studio. With the use of vintage machinery, the designer creates works that display a sense of restless energy and are layered with meaning. While Kühne does take on digital elements of projects, they insist on maintaining the letterpress poster as the axis of their work, maintaining a deliberate commitment to the poster as a form. Typography plays a central role in the designer's ideas, with a clear effort made to break from traditional formatting. Kühne innovatively utilizes color and texture as much as sizing and alignment.
