Aperitivo : A Critical Screening of Perfect Cases (Beyonce, Allora & Calzadilla, Jeremy Deller, Gucci, Maison Martin Margiela, Senga Nengudi, Rirktit Tiravanija, Rosalía) Catering by Manuel Cirauqui

Aperitivo: A Critical Screening of Perfect Cases... takes the form of a 150-minute workshop-like viewing session and document survey accompanied by snacks and soft drinks, all prepared by writer and curator Manuel Cirauqui.

The screening will feature a sequence of materials by key players of nowadays global art and culture, including video, music, performance, painting, and fashion works. This alignment will not necessary lead to an organized discussion, although opinions (and the responses thereto) shall not be repressed. Irresistible food for thought may lead to the irresistible thought of food, and vice versa, so tapas (+ vegan options) will be offered as a part of the whole curatorial catering. The connection between empathy, critical thinking, and aesthetics as shared experience will be a core interest of the session. Open to all MICA students, this event is sponsored and organized by Fall 2019 Graduate Survey.

Manuel Cirauqui is a writer and curator. Serving at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao for the past four years, he has organized the major exhibitions Soto. The Fourth Dimension (2019); Architecture Effects (2018, co-curated with Troy Conrad Therrien); Henri Michaux. The Other Side (2018); Art and Space (2017); and Anni Albers. Touching Vision (2017), and he also oversees the institution’s Film & Video exhibitions programming.

Recent projects elsewhere include the two-part exhibition Artaud 1936 at the Museo Tamayo in Mexico City (2018), and the site-specific installation Puerto Rican Light (Cueva Vientos) by Allora & Calzadilla at Dia Art Foundation (2015, co-curated with Yasmil Raymond). In addition to his work at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Cirauqui has recently been appointed director of Eina/Idea, a think tank for art and design based in Barcelona whose operations will start in spring 2020.
