MICA Celebrates 200 Years

Welcome to the Bicentennial of the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA)!

Since 1826, MICA has been at the epicenter of arts and design education in Baltimore, creating a place where creative courage, rigorous inquiry, and a commitment to social impact have shaped artists, designers, and educators who change the world. The official launch of the MICA Bicentennial on January 10, 2026, is rooted in history–Charter Day–the milestone moment when the State of Maryland granted MICA its charter 200 years ago.

In reflecting on this historic moment, President Cecilia M. McCormick, JD marks the milestone with a video that is both a celebration and a look forward. The bicentennial year is an opportunity to invite the community to connect, innovate, and collaborate about what is possible for the future of art and design education.

Learn about bicentennial stories, events, and exhibitions at mica.edu/200. The first public celebration to recognize the Bicentennial will be held on Wednesday, January 21, at 2 p.m. in Falvey Hall. Join MICA to mark this special occasion and hear about the exciting strategic initiatives underway for the future. Submit your RSVP on the MICA 200 website
