Statement
The more years I spend having conversations with women in my life, the more I realize that we all have something to say about our experiences shopping for clothes – and how the process of doing that makes us feel about our bodies as a result. This data-focused deep dive into how real women fit (or don’t) into clothing size charts serves as a reminder that sharing our stories and talking about how and where we shop is a great way to take back the power that we sometimes give away to a world full of unrealistic beauty standards. Leaning on clean, clear graphics in an approachable scrollytelling format, I walk the reader through the basics of size charts, the uniqueness of women’s body proportions, and what we all experience as we attempt to navigate a system that is too basic to account for the array of body types that exist in the real world.
