You Already Think Like a Creative. Now Learn to Run Like a Business.

The Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Business for Creatives (BCR) at MICA is a 30-credit, fully online graduate degree for artists, designers, and cultural producers who want the strategic, financial, and leadership skills of an MBA built specifically for the creative economy.

In 18 months, you'll choose a specialization track, work through two Venture Labs that move your idea from concept to tested prototype, and graduate with a launch-ready business plan, brand platform, or strategic initiative plus the master's credential and portfolio to back it.

Choose Your Track:

Three Pathways, One Degree

The online Master of Professional Studies in Business for Creatives is designed to accomplish that goal, empowering artists, designers and innovators to successfully launch and grow a creative career. These tracks allow you to earn stackable credentials. These are a modular approach to learning where students can earn discrete units of learning—like workshops, micro-courses, certificates—that accumulate toward our MPS in BCR.

The Capstone: From Concept to Launch-Ready Venture

Every BCR student completes the two-part Venture Lab sequence, which functions as the program's capstone. By graduation, you will have produced:

  • A validated business model and comprehensive business plan
  • A brand and communications strategy grounded in storytelling and audience research
  • A market-ready pitch deck, portfolio, or launch concept
  • A track-specific deliverable such as a funded venture roadmap, a luxury brand positioning strategy, or a strategic business plan for a creative organization.

Faculty & Mentors BCR students learn from a faculty and advisory network of practicing entrepreneurs, brand strategists, and creative executives

Built for How Creative Careers Actually Work

Standard BLS wage tables exclude the self-employed, which understates earning potential for the founder and studio-owner-track outcomes this program is built around. BLS's own analysis of fast-growing occupations with high rates of self-employment found that among creative occupations closest to this program, self-employment is the norm, not the exception: 58% of art directors, 59% of fine artists, and 59% of set and exhibit designers were self-employed as of 2022, with employment in those occupations projected to grow 6%, 5%, and 7% respectively through 2032 — each faster than the 3% average for all occupations. The entrepreneurial, studio-based outcomes the Entrepreneurship & Venture track prepares students for reflect how a majority of experienced creative directors and fine artists already work.

A June 2026 industry analysis from Adobe, compiling BLS and O*NET data across nine creative occupations spanning design, visual arts, writing and publishing, and film and video production, similarly found continued wage growth and labor demand across creative fields even as roles evolve alongside AI-driven tools.

Yes. The MPS in Business for Creatives is 100% online and asynchronous, with no required campus visits or synchronous sessions.

Three: Entrepreneurship & Venture, Brand & Luxury Management, and Creative Leadership & Strategy. All three share a common six-course core and culminate in a track-specific capstone deliverable.

No. The program is designed for creative professionals: artists, designers, performing artists, fashion professionals, game designers, educators, and entrepreneurs, regardless of prior business coursework.

A traditional MBA teaches general management theory through corporate case studies. The BCR teaches the same core disciplines in strategy, finance, brand, leadership, built specifically around creative ventures, brands, and cultural organizations, taught by faculty who have built and led them.

The BCR is a 30-credit, fully online MPS for creatives who want to launch, brand, or lead a venture on a flexible timeline. The Design Leadership MA/MBA, offered jointly with Johns Hopkins Carey Business School, is a dual-degree business-school credential for a different audience pursuing a traditional MBA pathway.

A validated business model, a brand and communications strategy, and a market-ready pitch deck, portfolio, or launch concept developed through the two-part Venture Lab capstone sequence.

If you're a creative professional who wants the strategic and financial skills of an MBA without leaving the creative economy and you want to graduate with a launch-ready venture, brand, or strategic plan rather than just theory, the BCR is built for that outcome.

Total program tuition is $40,500 for 30 credits. Financial aid, scholarships, and employer tuition reimbursement may significantly reduce net cost. Contact Graduate Admissions for a personalized estimate.
