Dr. Dave Reiss

Part-Time Faculty / Film & Video BFA & Filmmaking MFA

Dr. Dave Reiss is a filmmaker, editor, and educator with a background in professional media production and post-production systems. He earned an M.S. in Film Production from Boston University and, in the early 1990s, was among the first editors to produce a television series entirely on Avid nonlinear editing systems during the transition from linear to digital workflows.

After more than two decades working as a producer and editor on long-form documentaries and broadcast projects for organizations including Discovery Channel, National Geographic, and the Freedom Forum Newseum, Reiss transitioned into higher education. He later earned a Doctor of Communications Design (D.C.D.) from the University of Baltimore.

Dr. Reiss taught full-time in the Electronic Media & Film Department at Towson University for 21 years, specializing in post-production, color correction, corporate and community video, and media systems design. He continues to teach Color Correction at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and Towson University, approaching color as both a technical discipline and a creative language—one that shapes mood, narrative clarity, and audience perception—while emphasizing professional workflows, system integration, and precision-driven media practice.
