Mount Royal School of Art is a multi-disciplinary MFA program that allows student artists to work in ways most appropriate to their individual research--focusing their exploration within a specific medium or crossing into a wide array of disciplines and media as they engage in intensive studio practice. The Mount Royal School of Art nurtures a variety of approaches and media including painting, sculpture, video, animation, installation, conceptual art, performance, sound, photography, new media, and supports experimentation into new directions.
This program supports student artists in developing an intensive, critical, and imaginative art practice in an exciting and diverse community enriched by a broad selection of established artists, museum curators, and collectors. By encouraging to experiment and synthesize research from various experiences, interests, and disciplines, Mount Royal School of Art prepares the cohort to imagine an art for the future.

Application Requirements & Procedures for the Mount Royal School of Art
1. GradCAS Application Form
MICA uses GradCAS, a centralized graduate application platform, to collect and manage applications. When you select the link below, you will be asked to create a GradCAS account or sign in before selecting your MICA program and beginning your application.

3. Statement of Purpose/Artist Statement
Applicants are asked to submit a written statement (500-700 words). The statement should specifically address your portfolio of artwork, as well as your interest in graduate study.
4. Three (3) Letters of Reference

Digital transcripts from the last degree-granting institution can be uploaded to GradCAS. Official transcripts are not required for the initial review process, however, the Graduate Review Committee may request additional or official documentation before decision notification.
6. Portfolio of Artwork
Applicants should submit 18-20 digital images or time-based media for review. Applicants working in time-based media are strongly encouraged to submit excerpts of their work (maximum length of 3 minutes for each video or audio clip).
Do not submit images that are composite of several separate images, unless the composite image is considered an artwork in itself. Unless the descriptive text of a piece is an essential part of it, it should be included not in the image, but in the attached caption, in the notes field.

8. Additional Requirements for International Applicants
International candidates whose primary language is not English must demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English. Additionally, certified translations of all letters of reference, transcripts and school documentation must be provided.
