MICA this spring features three engaging and provocative exhibitions of thesis work by more than 40 master of fine arts candidates from MICA's internationally renowned M.F.A. in Graphic Design, Hoffberger School of Painting, Mount Royal School of Art, M.F.A. in Photographic & Electronic Media and Rinehart School of Sculpture programs.

    MICA presents "Warren Seelig: Textile per se," a retrospective of work by Rockland, Maine-based fiber artist Warren Seelig. The exhibition will be featured through Sunday, March 14, in the Meyerhoff and Decker galleries of Fox Building, and Leidy Atrium of Brown Center. THE ARTIST TALK ON FEB. 11 HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR MARCH 9 WITH THE LAUNCH OF THE EXHIBITION CATALOG.

    The Senator Verna L. Jones Annual BSU Exhibition, inaugurated by state Sen. Verna L. Jones (Baltimore City), showcases the work of members of MICA's Black Student Union. Maryland legislators and residents view and purchase work made by emerging artists of color at an exhibition in Sen. Jones' office in Annapolis that lasts for the duration of the 2010 legislative session (through Monday, April 12).

    MICA Faculty's Documentary Wins an Oscar

    "Music by Prudence," a documentary short subject film co-produced by Patrick Wright, chair of MICA’s video and film arts department, has won an Oscar, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced March 7. Errol Webber Jr. ’08 is the youngest cinematographer ever to shoot an Oscar-winning film. Several of Wright’s students interned on the project.

    MICA’s Center for Design Thinking Publishes Its Fourth Book, 'Exploring Materials: Creative Design for Everyday Objects'

    MICA and Princeton Architectural Press celebrate their new book, 'Exploring Materials,' with a book signing and reception on Thursday, March 11, 5:30-6:30 p.m. in Brown Center's Leidy Atrium. The book, authored by MICA's M.F.A. in Graphic Design program Director Ellen Lupton and environmental design faculty member Inna Alesina, features dozens of MICA students' work in the environmental design program. 'Exploring Materials' is scheduled to be officially released on Thursday, April 1.
