You’ll get real-world experience through project-based courses, internships, and studio classes in state-of-the-art facilities like the JHU-MICA Film Center. And you’ll work collaboratively on creative challenges with peers, professionals, and community partners.
The BFA in Creative Media Production prepares students for a broad range of roles in media production, gaming, sound design, visual effects, editing, and fine arts. You’ll graduate with in-demand skills in creative strategy, production, and project management and a polished, client-ready portfolio or reel.
You’ll work in cutting-edge spaces and use industry-standard software and tools. Facilities include dedicated spaces for animation, recording, production, interactive arts, and game design, along with a large sound stage, editing suites, and post-production facilities at the JHU-MICA Film Center, plus darkrooms and printing labs.

Nadia Hironaka serves as the Department Chair of Undergraduate Animation and Media Arts, and is part of MICA’s Filmmaking MFA faculty. She received her Masters of Fine Art from The Art Institute of Chicago and her Bachelors of Fine Art from The University of the Arts. In 2015 she received a Guggenheim Fellowship and was a 2008 Pennsylvania Council on the Arts fellow and received a Pew Fellowship in the Arts in 2006.
Jason Sloan is Area Head for Interactive Arts and professor of Sound Art at MICA. As a musician and sound artst, his work explores immateriality and its relationship to memory, systems and the virtual world. Besides his notoriety in the ambient and space music scenes for close to two decades, Jason has released over a dozen solo albums, collaborations and has been included on multiple various artist collections.
Sam Sheffield is a game designer and artist, serving as Area Head of Game Design and part of MICA’s Interactive Arts faculty. His work has been shown internationally, most recently as part of Playpublik in Krakow, Poland, Now Play These at the Wellcome Collection in London, Alt.Ctrl.GDC at the Game Developer's Conference in San Francisco, Ca. and Play at Arlington Arts Center in Arlington, Va.
