Program Overview

Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) offers the online Master of Professional Studies (M.P.S.) in Product Management, a unique master’s degree program designed to produce leaders with a blend of advanced skills across four disciplines:

  • Design 

  • Business Strategy

  • Project Management

  • The use of digital tools for product management

With the M.P.S. in Product Management, students will develop a powerful suite of skills for conceptualizing, prototyping, producing and promoting new products and services for businesses—all in a convenient online format. The program draws on MICA’s deep institutional understanding of design and merges it with industry-current knowledge in data analytics, user experience (UX) design, marketing practices and effective use of management technologies. 

Graduates of the M.P.S. in Product Management will be equipped to meet the rising demand for product managers and have the advanced skills necessary to pursue leadership roles. Earning a master’s degree may also raise graduates’ earning potential significantly: recent data from indicates that senior product managers earn $123,895 per year on average1, while product managers earn $108,9922.

Residency Overview

This program includes a three-day residency on MICA’s campus in Baltimore, Maryland and provides students the opportunity to build a network of colleagues, interact with product managers, and explore the newest tools and technologies in product management. Guest speakers will offer insight on industry best practices and trends. There is also ample opportunity to explore the multidisciplinary aspect of product management by interacting with other students from our other M.P.S. programs in UX Design, Business of Art and Design, and Data Analytics and Visualization. This residency is a unique and essential part of your graduate experience that is unlike most other product management programs.

Program Resources

The MICA Canvas environment is a flexible and adaptive platform so students can conveniently access content. Each faculty member holds a weekly live class delivered through Zoom web-conferencing software, whereby students can discuss topics with faculty and classmates. Lectures are recorded so students can revisit them at any time. Students also have access to MICA's web-based resources such as Adobe Creative Suite, LinkedIn Learning, MyMICA, Decker Library and Media Resources Center, and Business Source Premier, the industry's most used business research database.
