Gasali Adeyemo is a master artist who creates beautiful fabric and clothing using techniques he learned in his native Nigeria. He specializes in the traditional textile processes of adire eleko, batik and tie and dye, using indigo dyes because of their cultural importance to his people. His work also incorporates quilting and embroidery. Each textile has traditional Yoruba designs, with symbolic and biographical meanings. Gasali studied craft at the Nike Center for Arts and Culture in Osogbo, Nigeria. After studying there and teaching for several years, he started to exhibit his artwork internationally. Gasali presently resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico and spends as much time as he can with young artists, encouraging them to preserve and cherish the fantastically beautiful artistic techniques of the Yoruba tribe. He exhibits his work and teaches workshops across the country and internationally.
