Other Clean out and move out details

Undergraduate Students Academic Building Clean-Out:

Classrooms: During the week of Monday, May 5 through Friday, May 9, each student must remove ALL artwork from classrooms at the end of each critique. Any artwork or supplies left in classrooms, painting racks, in or on top of lockers, or other cabinets, will be discarded after 4:00 pm on Friday, May 9. Academic departments do not have the authority to grant extensions or to give permission for work/supplies to be left over the summer. Students are responsible for the removal of artwork and supplies.

Studios: Students are also responsible for removing all artwork and supplies from studio spaces. Unwanted artwork, debris and other materials from studios must be placed in the proper trash receptacles. Studio furniture should be left in an orderly fashion within the studios.

Juniors: You must completely move out of your studio space by 4pm on the Sunday after the last day of class of the semester.

Seniors (May Graduates): You must completely move out of your studio space by 4pm on the Wednesday after Commencement.

Also, please do not forget to remove your personal items from the common lounges (including food items left in the refrigerators).

Graduate Student Community Clean-Up Period: Monday May 5, to Friday May 16, 2024.

All graduate students must help clear classrooms, common areas (including kitchens and lounges), and hallways of student artwork, materials, and personal belongings during the two weeks prior to Commencement. Students are responsible for removing all trash from these areas. Dumpsters will be provided.

During this time, MFA students who will be returning for their second year of study in the Fall of 2025, should bring any materials or artwork currently stored in hallways into their studio, workspace, or designated storage areas until move-out for the Class of 2025 is complete, and until further notice from the Office of Graduate Studies. All items must be clearly labeled with the student’s name, phone number, and expected graduation year. Unlabeled belongings may be inadvertently removed or discarded during the studio turnover process.

Workspace Move-Out for Graduated Graduate Students

Class of 2025 students must completely vacate their studios/workspaces by 5pm on Monday, June 6, 2025. This is the final deadline and there are no exceptions. Keep in mind that the period between Commencement and June 6 is solely for move-out activities and not for continued art making.

Additional information will be sent out from the Office of Graduate Studies to both graduating students and returning MFA students during the month of April. Please refer to your Academic Workspace Agreement for additional details.

Seniors (Information on ArtWalk Preparation and Building Hours):

Seniors should plan accordingly in regards to hanging their work for the ArtWalk Exhibition.

Additional Information for MICA Off-Campus Students:

As you move-out of your off-campus apartment, please respect your neighbors who live here year-round. All trash should be placed in trash bags within your apartment’s designated trash cans (which must be covered). Plan ahead as needed to use several weeks of trash pick-up: The City of Baltimore does not allow trash bags to be put out on sidewalks or alleys that are not in trash cans or that are in trash cans but do not fit properly (they must allow the lid to fit correctly).

If you have to dispose of large items that are not suitable to be donated, please either:

  • Use the dumpsters in Founders Green (recycling and land-fill dumpsters), behind Meyerhoff House on Mosher Street (land-fill dumpster only), and The Gateway (recycling and land-fill dumpsters, near the Firehouse side)
  • Contact Midtown Community Benefits District of Baltimore to arrange bulk trash pick-up by visiting their website and providing the necessary information (Link)

Please do not leave large amounts of trash or other items on the sidewalk for your neighbors to manage. Based on Baltimore’s laws, you (or your landlord) could face fines.

Thank you.
