Before You Join Us
Make the Most of Your Session:
- Goal: What's your mission? What do you want to write, read, make, or understand? Not sure? That's ok! We'll help you find your goal and achieve it.
- Work: Bring whatever you have, even if that's just yourself. Our tutors are happy to review drafts and outlines or help you brainstorm. For assignments for class, it may be helpful to bring the assignment details, syllabus, and/or texts.
- Expectations: Our tutors are here to help you write better. They're here to talk, ask questions, identify patterns, explain concepts, and offer tools. Instead of editing, they will show you how you can edit more effectively. Instead of proofreading, they will make space for you to identify and fix errors.
What’s a Tutoring Session Like?
The Writing Studio exists to empower you, the writer. We tailor each and every session to your abilities and needs. Your tutor will ask how they can help and take it from there.
There are only two things that are true across every session: (1) your writing is valuable and worthy of discussion and (2) we cannot write for you.
- We’re your brainstorming buddies and strategy friends.
- Expect real talk, respectful feedback, and creative collaborations.
- We tackle the big ideas first, then zoom in on the details.
