Supervisor responsibilities include:

Leadership and Accountability

  • Set clear expectations for performance, conduct and attendance.

  • Lead by example through professionalism, integrity, and consistency

  • Hold employees accountable for meeting job responsibilities and institutional standards

Communication

  • Maintain regular and effective communication with employees and share relevant departmental and institutional updates in a timely manner

  • Conduct consistent one-on-one meetings and team check-ins

  • Provide clear direction, feedback, and follow-up on assignments and expectations

  • Listen actively and respond appropriately to employee concerns

Performance Management

  • Monitor employee performance and productivity regularly

  • Ensure employees follow work schedules, attendance expectations, and timekeeping requirements

  • Monitor leave usage and attendance patterns consistently and address attendance concerns promptly and fairly

  • Ensure compliance with overtime approval and scheduling expectations

Hiring and Onboarding

  • Participate actively in recruitment, interviewing, and selection processes, ensuring equitable and consistent hiring practices

  • Support onboarding and successful integration of new employees

  • Provide clear training, resources, and role expectations from the start

Employee Relations

  • Foster a professional, respectful, and inclusive workplace culture

  • Address interpersonal conflict, misconduct, and workplace concerns appropriately

  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in sensitive situations

  • Escalate concerns involving harassment, discrimination, retaliation, safety, or policy violations to Human Resources immediately

  • Support conflict resolution and team effectiveness

Policy and Compliance

  • Understand and apply institutional policies consistently

  • Follow legal and compliance requirements related to employment practices, wage and hour laws, safety expectations, and required training

  • Protect institutional resources and confidential information

Employee Development

  • Support employee professional growth and partner with the employee to identify training needs and development opportunities

  • Encourage employee engagement, recognize contributions and support retention efforts

  • Build strong, collaborative teams through mentorship and support

Partnership with Human Resources

  • Consult HR early when addressing employee concerns or making employment decisions

  • Partner with HR before disciplinary action, termination, compensation changes, restructuring, leave-related concerns, ADA accommodation requests, etc.

  • Use HR resources, tools, and guidance proactively
