Shadra Strickland

Shadra Strickland studied, design, writing, and illustration at Syracuse University and later went on to complete her M.F.A. at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.

Shadra Strickland is an award-winning author and illustrator, renowned for her distinct contributions to children's literature. Her illustrations have graced the pages of works by esteemed authors like Toni Morrison, Renèe Watson, and Delores Jordan. Shadra's talent has garnered recognition from the American Library Association, earning starred reviews and Youth Media Awards. She proudly received the Ezra Jack Keats Award for her debut book, "BIRD," in collaboration with Zetta Elliott.

With a background in education and design, Shadra's journey has been diverse and impactful. Prior to her role at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), she enriched young minds in Atlanta's public school system and honed her design skills in the publishing industry.

Beyond her artistic endeavors, Shadra Strickland extends her influence to art representation as an agent-at-large with Painted-Words Represents in New York City. Currently residing in Baltimore with her lovable golden retriever, Lucky, Shadra's creativity and compassion continue to inspire both her work and her community.
