Kiel Mutschelknaus

Kiel Mutschelknaus was born and raised in the Midwest, cutting his teeth in the Great Plains of South Dakota and graduating with a BA in Studio Art from Augustana College.

After spending a couple years in advertising and having drawn one too many corncobs, Mutschelknaus moved to the Detroit area to pursue his MFA in 2D Design at Cranbrook Academy of Art. There he investigated the limits and pliability of a traditional skill set in the constantly evolving design discussion.

Jaded by cruel Midwest winters, Mutschelknaus moved to DC after graduation where he currently works as an educator and freelance designer/illustrator. In both his studio practice and classroom he aims to push the boundaries of conventional working methodologies and embrace the potential energy of the unknown.
