Summer Session 2021

We look forward to continuing to support you and program during the 2021 summer term. While MICA’s physical campus continues in Operational Mode 3, we are diligently preparing to support your summer work with targeted opportunities and resources to meet your goals for graduate study. For your planning purposes, we have gathered some key dates, campus department information and preparatory information below.

General Information

Important Dates:

MFA Studio Art (Low-Res Summer) Session

  • Classes will be held June 14 - July 23, 2021. 
  • MFAST New Student Orientation (View Schedule Here) will take place virtually on June 11, 2021 beginning at 11:30AM EDT. Please take note of the required modules for those planning to be on campus. Orientation information will be recorded. Register for NEW student orientation here.
  • Studio Move-In is June 11 - June 13, 2021. 
  • Studio Move-Out is July 24 - July 25, 2021.

Leroy E. Hoffberger School of Painting & MFA Curatorial Practice Summer Session

  • Classes run May 24 - August 6, 2021
  • The Studio Move-Out Deadline is August 11, 2021

Graduate Studies Buildings

Lazarus Center / 1801 Falls Road Hours

  • June 10 - August 6, Open 24/7
  • August 7 - August 26,  Closes at 11 pm daily. 

Brown Center

  • June 10 - August 6, Open 24/7, Monday through Friday. Closes at 8 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
  • August 7 - August 26,  Closes at 11 pm on Monday through Friday; can open on weekends as needed.


MICA's COVID-19 response 

Please visit the MICA Reopen Plan Website. It is continuously updated with new information, including comprehensive newsletters and memos. The most recent memo can be found here. Review the following carefully:

  • Outside visitors are not allowed on campus this summer. This includes family and friends. 
  • Students who have not been on campus consistently during the Spring term must get tested for COVID-19 one week before arriving on campus. This includes those who have been vaccinated.
  • Only pt-PCR tests are accepted by MICA. Antibody (blood) and antigen (rapid) testing are not accepted
  • Test results must be uploaded to the Medicat Portal on the Student Health Center website.
  • PCR tests are available free of charge at most chain pharmacies

Important Notice - If you plan to live on campus, you will need to be vaccinated against COVID-19. You can find more information about testing in your area by going to You may also contact the Student Health Center ( for more information. 

The MICA Portal & 2-Factor Authentication

MyMICA is where students, faculty, and staff can access services and resources that provide self-service for things like student registration, grade reports, class rosters, and other information. 

Refund Checks

Expecting a refund check from your student loan?

Your student bill was emailed to your email account. To request a refund check: Email your name and student ID number to, requesting a refund.  It's as simple as that!

Parking Permits

Permits will be given out at no cost this summer. Students will need to sign up through the Campus Safety Portal, and then pick them up at the Health & Wellness Center, 1501 W Mount Royal Avenue.

Academic Resources

Art Tech Center

The Art Tech Center houses a number of technology resources for the MICA campus. Originally a union headquarters, the College purchased and renovated the building in the 1980's to become MICA's first cafeteria. Today the Art Tech Center is home to the following resources:

  • The Digital Print Studio

  • The AV Services Tech Desk

  • The Help Desk

  • A computer lab with ten different desktop computers, including nine Mac computers, one PC, and five flatbed scanners.

Note: Graduate students should make all effort to check equipment out from the Graduate Lab on the 5th floor of Lazarus Center. The equipment there will have a better selection to suit your needs. Reservation for Audio Visual Equipment may be made online at:

Decker Library

The Decker Library provides a wide range of services and facilities for research and instruction. This summer, the Decker Library will be offering virtual services and curbside pickup. Please review their operations page for the most recent updates available.

Writing Studio

Learning Resource Center

LRC staff will be available to assist students seeking disability support by appointment. Please reach out via email at to schedule an appointment or visit the LRC website for more information.


Exhibitions Department

This Summer, the  Department of Exhibitions will be assisting students to document their work in the Leidy and Riggs Galleries in Lazarus Center. Gallery maps can be found online here.


Graduate Research Lab

The Graduate Research Lab is located on the fifth floor of the Lazarus Center. The Main Lab is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year-round, except during campus-wide holidays and during scheduled maintenance. To access the Main Lab simply swipe your current MICA ID Card (MICARD) at the door. The Print Lab and Checkout hours fluctuate throughout the school year and are listed below. All graduate students should be able to access the Lab using their MICARD ID cards and should contact security and the Lab Coordinator if there are any problems with card access. Printing and Sound Studio appointments, general help, or meetings with the coordinator can be made through our contact page.

Student Services

MICA Shuttle

The Evening Safety Shuttle operates daily during the summer (June 10th - August 6th) from 5 pm - 12 midnight with the exception of July 4. This is an on-call service and transportation can be requested by calling 410-462-7575 or 410-225-2245. Any campus desk attendant can request a shuttle as well.

Getting Packages


This summer MFAST students will be located at the Gateway Building. You may use this address for both letters and packages. All mail will be held at Postal and Print in the building, 1st floor to be picked up. Packages will generate a delivery notification email for pickup.  The Postal and Print website has the most updated operations information on hours and policies.

MICA Health and Wellness Center

The MICA Health and Wellness Center is home to the Fitness Center, Student Health Services, Counseling Center, Student Development Specialist, and Health Education Programming.  All services, with the exception of the Student Development Specialist, are located at 1501 West Mt. Royal Ave; the Student Development Specialist is housed in Bunting. The Center is led by the Associate Vice President for Student Health and Wellness, whose role is to coordinate campus health education programming and support intentional collaboration with departments that address the physical, psychological, emotional, social, and developmental needs of MICA students.

MICA Store

The MICA Store is a nonprofit dedicated to providing students, artists, and the general public with quality art products and books at very competitive prices. The funds raised through the store are given back to the MICA students through scholarships and improvements to the College. You can visit their online store here. Fabrication Studios

This summer students will have access to the FLIV Wood Shop and Remote Production Services. Departmental Fabrication Studios will be closed. Please review their summer session website for additional information on hours and remote services offered. 

Alternative Resources

Graduate Studies is offering financial assistance to students wishing to access the facilities, equipment, and resources at Open Works.
