MICA's Staff Empowerment Council is made up of an Executive Committee and various committee chairs. Below are the SEC Leaders and Committee Chairs. Our meetings are open to anyone Director-level and below who wants to learn more about who we are, what we do, and how we can help you as a member of MICA's staff.
Associate Director, Graduate Admission Janine is an alum from 2004, and has been on staff at MICA for 15 years. She's really into basket making! And she makes tons of typos! Janine has a lot of problems with gluten! She also has had 2 ACL knee surgeries, one of which was 5 min into a soccer game.

Information Literacy & Instructional Design Librarian, Decker Library Siân Evans is the co-founder of Art+Feminism, a campaign to create meaningful changes to the body of knowledge available about feminism and the arts on Wikipedia. Her writing can be found in journals such as Art Documentation and The Serials Librarian, and her work with Art+Feminism has been covered by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, ARTnews, and more. Maybe you know her better via her better half, her pitbull, Pickle!
Director, Center for Student Engagement Karol is starting their 15th year working at MICA. They have 2 amazing kiddos (6 and 8 years old). Also, they love Disney World! Their current plan is to move to Orlando for retirement, but also to try and get a job working with Disney. =)
Educational Planning & Development Coordinator Leanne joined the SEC to feel more connected to the MICA community she cares about and is proud to serve with some of the most fantastic Staff at MICA. She has a passion for murder mysteries, the insect world, and the beauty of the ampersand.
Fabrications Studios Manager for Safety and Risk Management, Academic Affairs Sarah has been working at MICA since 1994. She has 3 cats, 2 dogs and a huge garden. She is an avid quilter and part of the MICA Quilt Raffle group.

Grants Coordinator, Office of Research Dedicated cat person–but dogs are cool too. Secretly dreams of being a goatherd. Takes every opportunity he can to tell you fun things about New England (where he's from).
Resource Sharing Coordinator, Decker Library Sid's favorite foods are crabs, crawfish, fresh figs, and roastbeef poboys. Sid's cat's name is Jonathan and he is 12 years old.
Undergraduate Admissions Counselor and the coordinator of Baltimore City Diversity Initiatives, Undergraduate Admissions While in MICA’s Curatorial Practice graduate program, she co-founded a community art library called The Menial Collection where she has been curating exhibitions and events now for three years. Come say hi to her in the admissions office in the Main building or The Menial Collection anytime!
Assistant Director, Constituent Engagement, Advancement Rita started in MICA's Advancement Office in 2019. Her work involves engaging the various constituents at MICA (alumni, parents, donors, friends), which is what brought her to SEC. She also enjoys engaging with her coworkers across divisions and is always excited to plan for the Annual Staff Professional Development Day with her peers. When she is not at work she loves being outside and staying active. Some of her favorite hobbies include hiking, yoga, playing tennis, playing football and Aerial Silks/Fabrics (circus performing arts).
Members of the SEC serve on committees across MICA's campus, including the DEIG Accountability Monitoring Group, the HUB Strategic Planning Committee, and the Great Colleges Steering Committee.
