Mid-Course Check-In

Overview

The Mid-Course Check-In is a structured conversation between the faculty member and external partner that takes place approximately halfway through the semester. Its purpose is to reflect on the partnership, confirm that expectations remain aligned, and identify any adjustments needed for the remainder of the course.

Most times, courses are progressing appropriately and being managed effectively at this stage, so this doesn’t have to be a complex conversation. However, there are times where scope, communication, timing, or expectations require attention. Meeting at the midpoint helps to maintain an open line of communication and creates an opportunity to address any issues while there is still time to pivot or make changes if necessary.

The Mid-Course Check-In Worksheet is designed to help faculty facilitate that conversation.  share the completed notes with the Design + Innovation Hub. If significant issues arise that require institutional support, the Hub can help coordinate any necessary follow-up. Faculty should also share the completed worksheet with the Hub.

The Mid-Course Check-In is not about evaluating outcomes, it is focused on making the partnership stronger and supporting student learning during the remainder of the course.
