Once a partnered course has been identified as the appropriate engagement, and the partner's opportunity, needs, and goals are understood, the next step is to develop the course together.

The Partnered Course Outline (PCO) is the foundational planning document for the partnership. Developed collaboratively by the faculty member and external partner, it translates the partner's opportunity into a meaningful educational experience while documenting the shared understanding of the course, the partnership, and the student experience.

The PCO guides faculty and partners through planning:

• The partnership: Who is involved, what course is being offered, and why the partnership makes sense.

• The opportunity: What students will explore and why it matters.

• Goals + success: What the faculty, partner, and students hope to accomplish.

• Roles + responsibilities: Who is responsible for what throughout the partnership.

• Student experience: How students will engage, learn, and contribute.

• Timeline + partnership milestones: Key activities, engagement, and touchpoints.

• Funding, resources, and administrative considerations: What support, access, permissions, or coordination may be needed.

• Risk, accessibility, and beyond the classroom: Factors that may affect the course and opportunities for continued engagement after the semester.

• Beyond the Classroom: Is there potential for promising work or the partnership to continue after the course?

Once completed by faculty, the PCO is submitted to the Design + Innovation Hub. The Hub uses it as the primary planning document to coordinate agreements (MOU, Scope of Work), funding and resource planning, budgeting, and other administrative processes, allowing faculty to focus on teaching while the Hub coordinates the supporting institutional infrastructure.
