Community Membership and Exposure Types
The policies, procedures, and protocols you'll follow in the event of a COVID-19 exposure depend on both the type of exposure and the type of MICA community member you are.
The following map delineates between the following community members:
- Students
- Full-Time Staff
- Part-Time Staff
- Full-Time Faculty
- Part-Time Faculty
and the following exposure types are defined as:
- Individual Positive: When an individual receives a positive COVID-19 PCR test result.
- Close Contact of a Positive Individual: Close Contact is defined as any UNMASKED contact within 6 feet, for a duration of 15 minutes, within a 24 hour period.

Procedures, Protocols, and Policies
Here’s a breakdown of the procedures, protocols, policies that are associated with each category.
Students
Includes undergraduate and graduate students living on and off-campus. Students who are enrolled in on-line programming, including Master of Professional Studies degrees and Community Education, Professional Practices, and Young People's Studios courses are exempt from the policy.

Policies
Communication with Faculty
Faculty will be informed by the Office of Student Affairs.
Isolating
On Campus: Student Health Services will coordinate with Residence Life to facilitate a move to MICA’s isolations spaces in Gateway
Off Campus: Student Health Services will provide students with isolation guidance based on their off campus living situation
Close Contact of a Positive Individual
Any UNMASKED contact within 6 feet, for a duration of 15 minutes, within a 24 hour period.

Sick Leave
If you have it available, use sick leave to cover the first 5 days of isolation before STD is activated.
Department-Sponsored Leave
If you do not have adequate sick leave, MICA will provide up to 5 paid days of department-sponsored leave
Short-Term Disability
MICA’s STD benefit is activated after 5 days of absence due to illness and should be used if you are isolating due to COVID-19.
Telework
If you have have an existing telework agreement, you may use/modify it to cover your quarantine time.
Flex / Alternate
For circumstances—such as minor dependent care—that may require flexibility in work schedule, a temporary, alternate work arrangement can be developed through the department of People, Belonging, and Culture and departmental managers.
