What to Do Before Camp
Step 1: Check your email
What email did you use to register for class? That’s where we’ll send all the info you need for class.
Step 2: Look for these two emails:

Didn’t receive 1 or both of these emails?
Email Open Studies at openstudies@mica.edu. Some email addresses won’t accept incoming messages from outside institutions. If you signed up with a school email address your account may be blocking our messages and we need to add an alternative email to your student account.
Complete the Emergency Contact & Information Form which includes MICA’s Rules & Responsibilities Agreement. This form is required and must be completed prior to the start of your Summer Art Camp Session.
Materials and What to Bring
All art materials will be provided in class. Students should bring:
- a personal water bottle, lunch, and a snack.
- a smock or wear clothes they can get messy in as appropriate for their class!
- their yellow lanyard each day (you will receive this during check-in on the first day)
Adobe Creative Cloud access will be provided to students enrolled in design classes, and students will use MICA desktop computers on campus during class. Some examples of classes that use this software are Photoshop, Animation, Illustration, and Photography classes.
In order to access the Adobe Creative Cloud software, you will need a MICA Account.

What is your MICA account?
All enrolled YPS students needing Adobe access get a MICA username and password. You will need these credentials to login to Adobe.

Location and Before/After Care
All YPS classes at MICA will be held in the Fox Building!
1305 W. Mt. Royal Ave., Baltimore, MD 21217
Note: Check-in and Check-out is at the Brown Center (neighboring glass building) on the first day of class.

There are two drop-off times: 8:30 AM (before care) or 9:30 AM (regular).
- Parents should park and walk their child to the check-in table in Brown (1301 W. Mt.Royal).
- After check-in, a staff member will escort your child to their classroom.
- Student Pick up is in Brown, at 3:30pm . Parents will briefly wait at the table until their child is escorted from their class.
To ensure the safety of our students, we ask that students be dropped off no more than 5 minutes before the start of class and picked up no later than 5 minutes after the end of class, unless enrolled in before Care or After Care. Please plan to park either briefly in the 81 Mosher St parking lot under the bridge, or in the neighborhood and check in at the registration table.
No students in K-8 may arrive or depart unaccompanied under any circumstances. K-8 Guardians must sign their student in and out. This ensures student safety and the appropriate transfer of care. High school students in grades 9-12 may arrive/depart independently, after the first day
There is no cost for before, lunch and after care, however it is only for K-8 students. K-8 Students will be automatically enrolled in lunch care.
High school students in grades 9-12 may arrive to class, depart from class and eat lunch independently.
All students are expected to bring a packed lunch and/or snack.
YPS and Open Studies Policies
If you anticipate you will not be able to pick up your student promptly at the end of class please call the YPS Program Manager at (443) 934-2018 so we can make appropriate arrangements for their care.
If students are dropped off or picked up outside of the appropriate class times more than two times in a semester, a $25 charge will be placed on the student's account beginning with the third occurrence, and for each occurrence thereafter.
- You may request a full refund before the start of the second class, if you are not satisfied with the course offering. Submit a written request to openstudies@mica.edu including your full name and course information.
- No refund will be offered after the start of the second class.
- Please note that refunds will not be issued for any weather related closures, including but not limited to snow, storms, and power outages.

MICA’s Open Studies programs provide a welcoming environment for all people and perspectives. A community such as ours depends on the good judgment and considerate behavior of its members. All participants are expected to maintain high standards of personal conduct, to show respect for personal and College property and for the rights of their fellow students, faculty, and staff. Generally, behavior that reflects good intentions, mature judgment, and respect for the rights of other people will meet the expectations of Open Studies. Behavior that threatens or endangers your safety or well-being, or that of other members of the community, or that causes damage to property, will be subject to disciplinary action. Students have both Rights & Responsibilities. The following are standards of conduct expected from all participants in Open Studies programs. Violations of these standards will result in sanctions, which range from warning to dismissal from the program.

- Pursue your artistic studies in an environment free from undue interference or disturbance from others in the community
You have the responsibility to:
- Uphold MICA’s core values
- Abide by Federal and State laws and the College’s policies and expectations

Art Show, Resources and More
All YPS students will have their work showcased virtual Summer and in person art show at the conclusion of the program. You may invite family and friends from all over to view their art and celebrate their hard work.
