Baltimore — Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) is pleased to present “UNCOMFORTABLE DIALOGUES,” a lecture by Santiago Espinosa de los Monteros, as part of MICA’s Mixed Media Series.

Using the raw power of Teresa Margolles’ work What Else Can We Talk About? as a case study, renowned curator and critic Espinosa de los Monteros will explore curatorial efforts and strategies needed to stimulate uncompromising dialogues about Latin America’s most pressing sociopolitical issues — and how uncomfortable cultural manifestations can be used to engage the public and promote social awareness and change.

The event, which occurs at 6 p.m. March 10 in Lazarus Center, is free and open to the public.

MICA’s Mixed Media Series brings high-profile, globally recognized artists, designers, scholars, curators and educators working at the forefront of their fields to MICA’s campus for public talks, in-class presentations, studio critiques and other immersive activities with students and the community.

The aim of the Mixed Media Series is to build important and imaginative public events that address the diversity of practice in our fields and the complex relationships between art, culture, identity, politics and belonging in the contemporary world.
