Departure From Campus

  • Exhibition & Celebration
    Students and their families and friends are invited to the MICA campus for the PreCollege Certificate Ceremony and Student Exhibition on the last night of each session. Students in the 4-week combined program will have two celebrations.*Please note that modifications to the exhibition and allowed guests on campus may occur. Events and guest policies must align with the current operational mode as related to COVID-19. Please contact precollege@mica.edu with any questions

    - Session 1: Friday, July 12, 4-8 pm 
    - Session 2: Friday, July 26, 4-8 pm

    Students start with a certificate ceremony at 4 pm in Falvey Hall, followed by a dinner break from 5 pm-6 pm with friends and family, and then a campus-wide exhibition walk from 6-8 pm, followed by students de-installing their work to take home. Students may be given special permission to depart from the program following the completion of the exhibition only if all of their move-out tasks have been completed and approved by staff.   PreCollege staff must be notified in advance of departure day so that they are prepared to assist in the check-out procedures.

    Session 1 students depart Saturday, July 13 
    Session 2 and Combined Session students depart Saturday, July 27 

    Shuttles to the designated stations will be available for students. Typically the last shuttle to head to the airport or train station will be at 12 noon. Students must leave their apartments in a neat and clean condition, all belongings, trash, food, and any other items must be removed and properly disposed of by the departure time, or charges may apply. When students depart, they should check out with their PreCollege Community Assistant, have their apartment condition checked, and​ turn in apartment keys.​ (Up to $250 charges will apply if keys are not turned in).

    Room Condition
    Students will review their Room Condition Form (RCF) that was completed at move-in. This form will be used at move-out to assess any damages. Because these forms do not list every possible thing that you can be charged for, you may be responsible for damages not listed on the form. ​Important Note: ​Homasote boards are located in each bedroom and common space. They are for pinning artwork to for coursework only, where only minor marks are expected. Boards should not be drawn on, painted or otherwise altered and ​charges for repainting will apply ​if this occurs.

    Sending Work Home
    A postal company will be available to pack and arrange for the mailing of student artwork on the morning of move-out. This service is a third party company, can be expensive and requires payment at the time of shipping via credit card. It is the responsibility of the student to make arrangements for the transportation or shipping of all personal items and artwork back home. Any valuable items that may be broken should be taken with them on the plane or train. MICA does not offer storage facilities, and any items remaining unclaimed at the program’s end will be discarded. For all digital works, it is the responsibility of the student to keep copies of their work, as MICA does not maintain digital storage of student work.
