Planned Giving

Planned Giving

Planned giving allows you to support MICA’s mission in a way that aligns with your financial, family, and philanthropic goals. By including MICA in your will or trust, naming the College as a beneficiary of a retirement account or life insurance policy, or creating a gift that provides income during your lifetime, you can create a lasting legacy of opportunity for future artists and designers.

Donors who make a planned gift are recognized as members of the Mount Royal Society, which honors the generosity of those who have included MICA in their long-term plans. If you have already arranged a bequest or other planned gift, please let us know so we can welcome you into the Mount Royal Society.

A gift through your will or estate plans is one of the most flexible and meaningful ways to support MICA. Whether you leave a specific amount or a percentage of your estate, your gift helps ensure future generations of artists and designers can thrive.

Gifts made through your will or trust allow you to shape your legacy in a way that reflects your values. These gifts can be adjusted over time and may provide tax benefits for your loved ones.

Why make a gift through your will or trust

  • Create a lasting legacy that reflects your priorities
  • Support both your family and the causes you care about
  • Potentially reduce estate taxes for your heirs
  • Maintain full control of your assets during your lifetime

Simple ways to include MICA in your plans

You and your advisor can choose the option that works best for you:

  • A specific amount or asset
    (e.g., “I give $10,000 to MICA.”)
  • A percentage of your estate
(e.g., “I give 5% of my estate to MICA.”)
  • The remainder of your estate
After other gifts and obligations are fulfilled.

We’re always happy to talk through your options. Please reach out to the Office of Advancement to discuss your giving options or let us know you’ve included MICA in your plans.

A beneficiary designation is one of the simplest ways to make a gift to MICA by naming the College as a beneficiary of your retirement account, investment account, bank account, or life insurance policy.

Why make a beneficiary designation gift

  • Continue to use your account as long as you need to
  • Simplify your planning and avoid costly legal fees
  • Reduce the tax burden on your family
  • Receive an estate tax charitable deduction

If you are 70½ or older, an IRA charitable rollover allows you to make a gift directly from your IRA, reducing your taxable income while making a meaningful impact at MICA.

Why make an IRA charitable rollover

  • Avoid taxes on transfers of up to $105,000 from your IRA
  • Satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year
  • Reduce your taxable income, even if you do not itemize deductions
  • Make a gift that is not subject to standard charitable deduction limits
