In conjunction with The Maryland Institute College of Art's Bicentennial and the exhibition DEVOTED: 20 Years of The McMillan-Stewart Endowed Chair in Painting, this program brings together three accomplished women artists—Patricia Cronin, Monica Ikegwu ’20 (Painting BFA), and Katherine Tzu-Lan Mann ‘09 (LeRoy E. Hoffberger School of Painting MFA)—to analyze contemporary approaches to art pedagogy. Each speaker represents a different facet of the chairship’s legacy: one as a visiting artist, one as a student, and one who has experienced the role from both perspectives. Moderated by Professor Jennie Hirsh, Ph.D., this conversation will explore the generative coexistence of studio and teaching practices. Together, the group will consider how artmaking and teaching coexist, and how artists navigate the classroom, shifting between and among roles as critics, mentors, and peers.
