Natural dye and its traditions have been widely practiced and inherited by Koreans. It is connected deeply to Korean textile traditions and daily necessities products and fun recreations in modern society. In this session, we will be hearing from four natural dye practitioners and scholars who research and create arts, crafts, and educational programs with various types of traditional Korean natural dye and textile methods. This session will also include an introduction to Doong-Ji (둥지), Online Exhibition about Natural Dyes, Cultures & Community. This is the second event in a two-part spring series of the Baltimore Natural Dye Initiative. The Baltimore Natural Dye Initiative is pleased to announce a series of events celebrating the relationships, community connections, and creative work we have valued and sustained during the instability of these times. As we are cast to places across the globe, we are reuniting in a series of symposium events to reconnect as we move forward. Last year at this time, we had to cancel our in-person symposium due to the pandemic. We hope this year, you can join us for a celebration of people, connections, and conversations to acknowledge and honor our relationships, and those who continue to tell the stories of natural dye. This event series is supported in part by the Maryland State Arts Council (msac.org) and organized by Rosa Sung Ji Chang, Eva Sailly, Anushka Jajodia, Audrey Naiva, and Kate McGrain.
