Students from the Parade and Processions class, in the Fiber, Fashion and Textile department, worked hard to build imaginative and spectacular processional lanterns for the 27th annual Great Baltimore Lantern Parade and Dia de los Muertos Festival. The event, hosted by the Creative Alliance and the Friends of Patterson Park, features bands, school groups and dancing troupes from across Baltimore and draws about 10,000 people. The students, accompanied by a few MICA alumni and community members, paraded their lanterns, a Kelpie and Baba Yaga hut, alongside lanterns made by their teacher, faculty member Valeska Populoh. This is MICA’s 8th year participating in this incredibly joyful event that celebrates the diversity of our city.
