Steven Chen serves as a Program Coordinator at MICA, primarily supporting college-wide accreditation efforts with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) and the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). His career in higher education administration spans experience in financial aid and student accounts. Leveraging his background in data analytics, a key past project highlight includes developing a geospatial tracking app for the Montclair Film Festival to identify safe spaces within the community.
Steven holds degrees in Data Analytics, Business Administration, and Cello Performance, alongside a Master’s and doctoral candidacy in Musical Arts. An accomplished musician who has performed across the United States and Europe, Steven is deeply committed to social advocacy. He has performed for Presidents Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Jimmy Carter, and appeared at Carnegie Hall for Kate Winslet’s Golden Hat Foundation supporting autism awareness and Al Gore’s Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) for environmental action. In 2021, he was invited to speak alongside Renée Fleming at the Johns Hopkins University Commencement Ceremony and received the Peabody Institute's James Winship Lewis Memorial Prize in Performance.
