
Sonja Kelley is the Dean for Liberal Arts and Education. She is a specialist in East Asian art history, and her research explores the visual culture of China in the twentieth century, with a special focus on the interaction of art and politics. She has been at MICA since 2012 as a full-time faculty member in the Department of the History of Art, Design and Visual Culture. She has served in various roles at MICA, including Chair of the History of Art, Design and Visual Culture and Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Studies. Sonja holds a Ph.D. in Art and Archaeology from Princeton University and a B.A. in Art History from the University of Texas at Austin. Before coming to MICA, she was a Visiting Assistant Professor at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota and had also been an adjunct instructor at the University of Washington in Seattle and Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington.
